Ribbit

Put a new pump and fresh water in our pond in the backyard this weekend. Checked on it yesterday afternoon to find a dozen frogs mating and laying thousands of eggs. One of them was surprisingly vocal considering it was still daytime. I hear them often but rarely see them in action letting it all out. Grabbed my camera with macro lens and shot a few photos. Spring is in the air.

Erika & David, Jennette’s Pier 4.13.13

Here’s a few images from David & Erika’s wedding this weekend at Jennette’s Pier. It was a pleasure working with Audra and her team from 1587. What a beautiful day and a great start to our 2013 wedding season!

Great Egret

The Great Egret, also known as Common Egret, Great White Egret, or Great White Heron, is a fairly common bird found in wetlands along the Outer Banks. I enjoy watching them wade through shallow water using their long yellow bills to quickly jab their prey. I photographed this egret hunting behind the Whalehead Club recently.  He was quite skittish, but I managed to get a few images before he took off. Shot with my 5D Mark 3 and 300mm F4.

Currituck Light

Climbed the Currituck Lighthouse on Wednesday morning. I’ve shot a number of weddings there, but this was my first time venturing all the way to the top. I was the first climber and had it all to myself for a while. Love the lines inside.

Frisco Friday via Fifty

Decided to shoot exclusively with my 50mm lens in Frisco on Friday to make it interesting. Being limited to one focal length forces you to move around to compose an image and be more creative. It was quite liberating. If I had to pick only one prime lens it would be the 50. Consider it to be the most versatile lens. Here are a few frames from a gloomy day on the south beach. Always an adventure on Hatteras Island. 040513-Frisco-032 040513-Frisco-062 040513-Frisco-059 040513-Frisco-063 040513-Frisco-084 040513-Frisco-099 040513-Frisco-125 040513-Frisco-129 040513-Frisco-140 040513-Frisco-167 040513-Frisco-196

Rush Hour

Rush hour in Oregon Inlet, which is considered to be one of the most dangerous inlets in the world to navigate due to shallow shifting sandbars and rough surf. This particular morning was about as calm as it gets.

Easternsurf.com White Balance

Eastern Surf Magazine featured this image from my recent trip to the Caribbean as the newest White Balance photo, a slideshow feature that highlights the challenges of nailing the photo. It’s a signature carve by Virginia Beach’s Phil Goold in beautiful backlit conditions. Head over to the site for the recipe for the image. http://www.easternsurf.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=828:white-balance&Itemid=124

Brody In Action

This ones for you Wes! Here’s my boy Brody getting it at the beach a few minutes ago. If we say ‘beach’, he goes absolutely nuts; there’s nowhere else he’d rather be.
