Made a last minute decision to chase hurricane leslie swell up to long island on sunday night. Erik Schub, my brother, and I drove overnight. We stopped at Dover Downs Casino in Delaware to break up the drive. My brother and Erik lost $140 in 10 minutes and that should’ve been our sign to turn around. After crushing a few delicious bagels when we arrived in New York, our sunrise surf check revealed overhead perfect lefts reeling down the beach. Sets were pouring in. Couldn’t get our suits on fast enough. Seemed like right when we paddled out someone flipped a switch and the surf size and consistency dropped like a rock and that was followed by a side shore wind. Not what we came for. Oh well…still a fun little road trip. Pulled over on the Verazano Bridge to snap a photo of the skyline on 9-11. Its hard to believe it’s been 11 years. I will never forget.
