Nils Schweizer, Mainland Mexico 2010

This was towards the end of my 3 week trip to Mainland Mex last summer. I was shooting Brett and Joey on the left peak and looked over and saw Nils take off on this one about 50 yards away. I thought there was no way he was making it to me, but after 3 or 4 pumps he was going about 80 mph in the barrel. He had enough speed to make it out, then someone dropped in on him right behind me. Wish I was closer to him, but it came out pretty cool being able to see the whole wave. Don’t doubt the Nils…he’s probably coming out of the barrel! Happy International Surf Day.

Kure Beach

Just returned from a few days in Kure Beach, NC. Fun, relaxing trip with family. Didn’t take many photos…just enjoyed time with the fam and restored my creativity for the next round of shoots. Here’s a couple images I grabbed on the trip.

Hooked Up, Bluefin Tuna, Feb 2011

Anna Butler & Joe Ward

Anna and Joe’s wedding was a blast. They had a beautiful ceremony and reception at the First Colony Inn in Nags Head . The weather was perfect and the entire night couldn’t have gone any better. We really enjoyed working with the local crowd and were honored to photograph their wedding. Be sure to view the slideshow below and view the wedding in full and purchase prints right here.

Eastern Surf Magazine Money Shot

Dunphy and I scored full page Money Shot in the new Eastern Surf Magazine. We linked up on this one on a dreamy day in Salvo thanks to Hurricane Earl. Click on the photo to view the digital mag in full. Nice work guys!

Peaky Goodness

Ready for an overhead and peaky day with offshore winds and no current.

Offshore Fishing Yesterday

Went offshore yesterday hoping to catch some yellowfin or bigeye tuna. We ended up on a completely different program, catching gaffer dolphin and targeting white marlin most of the day. We raised up 5 or 6 and hooked into 4 marlin. Couldn’t get any to the boat, but it was a really exciting anyway. I’ve never fished for marlin or had any encounters with them so it was really cool seeing how they come up and investigate your spread and then if your good enough to gett’em hooked they go nuts jumping out of the water trying to throw the hook. Caught 3 gaffer dolphin on some grass early in the morning then got a really nice wham of gaffers early afternoon…biggest one about 30 lbs. I didn’t get any photos because I was fighting the biggest one of the day (not complaining!). Thanks Drew for snappin couple pix of me fighting the biggn. Conditions were about as good as it gets with light and variable winds, water as blue as it gets, and a glassy ocean for most of the day. Another fun day on the Blue Runner. That mahi tasted oh soo good in fish tacos last night!

Hurricane Earl Revisited

K I’ll admit I’m getting excited about Hurricane Season so here’s another post. Hurricane Earl delivered some of the most powerful waves I’ve ever seen on the EC. As the storm passed and the winds went offshore, Avalon Pier took the spotlight. Jesse Hines has made thousands of barrels in his lifetime, but every once in a while he slips up. This particular wave was no exception. He attempted one of the first stepoffs of the day (and maybe ever for him?) and took a beating that ultimately broke his board right in half. I don’ think anyone could have made that vertical drop. Of course he ended up getting the waves of the day soon after.
