Yeaa…I was that guy this morning creeping through the bushes photographing birds. Danget.

It’s Official

It’s official…the ASP is coming to the East Coast this Fall. The Quiksilver event will be held in New York and will have a whopping one million dollar prize purse…the biggest in surfing history. Click below for more info.

More Foggy Swell

Pretty sure I walked and paddled 5 miles yesterday afternoon in Rodanthe. Some amazing waves coming in, but you had to really work for em as the current was sweeping down the beach. I was envious of the guys doing stepoffs with jetskis catching 50xs as many waves as everyone else. Unfortunately it stayed foggy and rainy most of the day so I couldn’t shoot, but I did grab one lineup at sunset. So ready for a real swell!

Snow Session

Fun surf today. The snow on the island is nuts. So rare to see that much snow down there. Grabbed a few photos before paddling out.

10 in 2010; Part 7

I thoroughly enjoy shooting weddings…I never feel like I’m ‘working’. Everyones having a great time, the ceremony and reception sites are beautiful, and I get the opportunity to document one of the most special days of 2 peoples lives. I’ve already booked a bunch of weddings for 2011 and couldn’t be happier. I love what I do. Here is an image I took at the last wedding of the year in 2010. We did a ‘trash the dress’ session the afternoon after the wedding. It was a blast. Jen and Brett were very easy going and great to work with. Photogenic too. We shot for a few hours in various parts of Corolla and finished on the beach. They ended up walking out into waist deep water and loved every second of it despite the chilly water temp. They came in sopping wet with huge smiles on their faces. It was awesome! Got some great photos from the session.

Surprise

Left my house this afternoon with the intent to shoot moody black and white landscape images along the sound as the sky was dark and gloomy looking and the sound was glassy. I came home with these.

10 in 2010: Part 6

Hurricane Danielle…disappointing at first, but ended up coming through for us in the end. Brett Barley and I drove up to New Jersey to chase the Danielle swell and got skunked. We shot for an hour in the morning with little luck then turned around and drove home because we knew it was going to be fun the next day in Rodanthe. How it goes sometimes with long period hurricane swells. Anyway, this storm was in the Atlantic right around the ECSC in VB, so there were quite a few talented surfers in town. Dylan Goodale of Kauai, Dunphy and Asher came down and stayed at my house and we ended up scoring great waves with noone around for 3 or 4 days in a row. Was great scoring at home after making the pointless drive up to NJ. This particular session was fun to shoot because the waves were really rippable and 10-15 amazing surfers were out pushing eachother to do bigger and more radical maneuvers. I ended up going on the pier to get a different perspective as Dylan tends to fly through the air on every wave he takes. This one came out pretty cool. It was a classic day on the Outer Banks…sunny, warm, head high plus clean surf all day. I ended up getting a few photos ran in Surfer Magazine and Eastern Surf Magazine from this swell. Thanks again Danielle!
